Situated about 160 miles north of London, Sheffield is a city experiencing a massive increase in population but also violent crime. It is a city in great need of a greater Gospel witness and the redeeming influence of God’s Word and people.
Population and Size: 555,000, but incorporating the metropolitan area that increases to over 1.5 million. The population is growing faster than the national average. It is one of the 8 largest cities in the country, making it a part of the Core Cities Group. Due to two universities in the city, the largest age group is made up of 20-24-year-olds.

With over 2 million trees spread around the cities, it has the highest ratio of trees to people of any European city.

Motto: Deo Adjuvante Labor Proficit (With God’s help our labour is successful). Sadly, Christian influences of the past seem to have little impact today.

Violent crime has increased dramatically, more quickly than almost any other place in the country. Knife crime alone is up 68% over the last two years.
Sheffield began as a settlement beside the River Sheaf, where it got its name, in the second half of the 1st millennium AD. However, there is evidence of people living there since the last ice age.
